    Course Structure

The B.A. Filmmaking syllabus is carefully structured to provide students with a robust foundation in various allied arts and societal issues during the foundation year. This foundational experience is essential before delving into the specifics of their chosen elective core subject. Additionally, students gain valuable insights and formative wisdom in cinema and filmmaking, shaping their understanding of the field before focusing on their specialized areas of study.

    Semester 1

In the first semester, the students are introduced to the foundational aspects of filmmaking with a strong emphasis on observational skills and storytelling for screen. The curriculum covers Language and Literature as tools for narrative development; with an interesting module of Theatre and Film Acting and with the fundamental topics on Editing, Sound and Cinematography, the semester gives a striding into an exposure of making a short fiction film with less dialogues and more of audio-visual storytelling.

    Semester 2

Semester 2 advances core filmmaking skills with strengthening of Direction, Screenplay along with in-depth technical training across cinematography, sound recording, and editing practices. The semester culminates in the production of a short dialogue-based fiction film, integrating storytelling, performance, and production practice. Students also explore Film & Society, deepen their understanding of Production, and study the intersection of Environmental Studies and Media.

    Semester 3

The third semester expands into core filmmaking disciplines, covering Direction, Cinematography, Sound Recording Techniques, Edit Design, and Screenwriting. It also introduces students to Advertising, 3D Modelling, Texturing & Animation. The curriculum strengthens research-driven storytelling through Non-Fiction Writing, Project Development, Media Laws & Ethics, serving as a critical scaffolding for advanced studies and long-form projects in subsequent semesters.

Emphasizing the development of documentary and non-fiction narrative skills, students begin their specialization.

    Semester 4

The fourth semester advances technical and creative skills with Direction, Cinematography, Sound Recording and Editing Techniques, and Advanced Edit Design, all of which are required to make a film. Students further refine their storytelling abilities through Screenwriting, Account Planning, Motion Graphics & Particle FX, and Production Design. They engage in Project Pitching, or explore Camera Tracking & Match Move, depending on the choice of subject- all of which are delivered with an emphasis on Industry Preparedness.

    Semester 5

In the fifth semester, students delve into Business Acumen for Media & Entertainment, refining their expertise in Direction, Cinematography, Sound Post-Production Aesthetics and Techniques, and Advanced Edit Design. They further develop their storytelling with Screenwriting, Producing Ideas, and Compositing, Roto & Paint. Additionally, they gain real-world experience through an internship.

    Semester 6

The final semester focuses on mastering Direction and Production (Core Subjects) along with the chosen specialization in subjects such as Cinematography, Editing, Sound Design, Screenwriting, VFX, and Video Advertising. Students apply advanced techniques, develop industry-ready skills, and complete a Final Year Short Film Project to collaboratively showcase their creative and technical abilities. The course concludes with a “Grad Film Festival“ where the films are screened, celebrated and evaluated.
