Annapurna College of Film and Media offers a UGC Master’s program in Filmmaking (MA Film & Media) with a dual major in the following combination:

Cinematography

Scriptwriting

Editing

Sound Design

Course Structure

Students must undertake a Bridge Course online before the semester commences to align themselves with the vocabulary and process of filmmaking.

Semester 1 - Students study the core subject Direction along with a chosen craft from the professional elective subjects Production, Screenwriting, Cinematography, Sound Design or Editing.

Semester 2 - Students delve deeper into the common core and the chosen professional elective namely Direction, Production, Screenwriting, Cinematography, Sound Design and Editing.

Semester 3 - Students have a series of Master classes and workshops in their chosen professional elective. Exposure sessions with Industry practitioners help improve their skills and understanding. They gain wider exposure to a range of media and technologies - from Television, OTT, Digital Media, and Web based platforms to Virtual Production.

Semester 4 - Students participates to create a graduation film co-funded by the college, ensuring a portfolio. The crew comprises of students of the batch from all core crafts. The best films are selected and sent to reputed film festivals across the world.

Throughout the two-year program, students engage in immersive learning and collaborate with seasoned industry professionals. This comprehensive curriculum offers practical training in both fictional and non-fictional aspects of filmmaking. A strong emphasis is placed on Film Studies, achieved through in-depth film analysis and group discussions.

 

Upon completion, MA Film & Media graduates can opt to pursue diverse career paths within the Film and Media Industry, leveraging their proactive approach and achievements, or they can choose to advance their education domestically or internationally. The program is affiliated with Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University (JNAFAU), ensuring its academic integrity and quality.

Distinguished Alumni

Akshat Ajay Sharma, is a multifaceted creative professional, celebrated as an Independent Filmmaker, Writer, and Poet in the Indian entertainment industry. Graduating in 2014 with an MA in Film & Media from Annapurna College of Film and Media, he swiftly rose through the ranks, starting as an Assistant Director on films like Mukkabaaz. His talent led him to become a Creative Assistant and Associate Editor on projects like Manmarziyan and Lust Stories. He made his directorial debut with in the Hindi Film Industry with the critically acclaimed Haddi, starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Anurag Kashyap.

Akshat's collaboration with renowned filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has been pivotal. He contributed as the Second Unit Director on Sacred Games (Season 2) and achieved commercial success in the Telugu Film Industry by helming the Director’s hat for Singham 123, produced by Mohan Babu. Presently, he collaborates with major production houses such as Jar Pictures, Reliance, UV Creations, and Geetha Arts.

As the Co-Founder and Director of G.R. Wolf Productions, Akshat is actively involved in creating impactful documentaries, experimental films, and corporate and ad films. He also serves as the Creative Director at iCandy Films, showcasing his diverse skills.

​

Beyond filmmaking, Akshat is a gifted writer and poet, drawing inspiration from literary giants like Rimbaud and Byron. He has authored books like God Is Dead and Viaticum - Journey of a Soul, and his poetry has been featured in various anthologies and journals.

​

His short documentaries, Zindagaani and Daring Tourist, have received acclaim at international film festivals, including the World Poetry and Human Rights Film Festival in Canada. Through his work, he delves deep into the complexities of human emotions, leaving a lasting impact on audiences worldwide.
